DAY 83: Moguls & Movie Stars...

Not just the title of a TMC docu-series, moguls and movie stars go hand-in-hand. In our modern times, most entrepreneurial artists juggle several business ventures. I've found in researching for this post that most of the truly successful artists have, in actuality, branded themselves. This branding effort ranges from simply branding themselves as an actor in the form of project selection to actual commercial product promotion. For example, a very good friend of mine recently visited from the mid-west and, upon arrival in LA, insisted we head to a drug store in search of a brand of lip-gloss a celebrity had mentioned she used in a magazine. THAT is pretty powerful evidence that celebrities influence their audience on many levels. The art (in my effort to perpetually find a beautiful and unique slant) of it is seems paradoxical: it's SO simple, but yet so many artists fail to take advantage of it or succeed at it. Is it as easy and effortless as handing a celebrity a bag to carry around or do certain celebrities have some keen ability to set trends and promote products with ease? And if the latter is true, what qualities do they possess that make this so easy and successful? And, beyond that, it's incredible that by promoting these products they enhance their own status simultaneously!

Wanna hear my thoughts? Of course you do...that's why you're here :) In my opinion, the celebrities who are most successful view themselves as moguls. They pursue their business of acting as they do every other business venture - as one that is continually expanding and prospering. The saying you're either growing or you're dying is evidently very true. So my "take away" lesson is that I'm not just an actress who reads scripts and IS other people in front of the camera. I'm also a business mogul that influences my audience and fans through the lifestyle I choose to lead and promote. This doesn't mean every aspect of my life is public knowledge. It just means that celebrities, inevitably, take on a position of power and influence and should, therefore, make the most of it! For me, this means I propagate a happy, healthy lifestyle filled with products like hiking shoes, farmers markets, fitness products as well as all the fashionable things I love! And that just sounds fun and exciting! There's no reason we shouldn't all take this approach to life. We are not "one-track" or "basic" beings. We are complex, unique, opinionated, multi-faceted, and fascinating individuals. Go out there and brand your Self in as many ways as you like! Promote your best possible Self and continue to expand and grow your Self with every opportunity!

Here's to making it!
